Christal Moura Elected New President Of Waterloo Region Association Of Realtors®

WATERLOO Region, ON (Thursday, November 23, 2023)

Today, the Board of Directors of the Waterloo Region Association of REALTORS® (WRAR) elected Christal Moura to serve as its President. Moura succeeds Megan Bell, who will continue her term on the board as Immediate Past President.

Moura, a Broker with Royal LePage Crown Realty Services, has been a REALTOR® since 2016. From 2019 to 2022, she served on the Board of Directors of the Cambridge Association of REALTORS® (CAOR) before her appointment to the transition board of WRAR when CAOR amalgamated with the Kitchener-Waterloo Association of REALTORS® (KWAR) in 2022.

A big believer in promoting professionalism, Moura has served on and chaired a number of board committees during her tenure, including Finance, By-law, Member Relations, and Professional Standards.

“I am beyond thrilled to be elected by our board to serve as WRAR’s first elected president,” said Moura. “Interestingly, I will likely serve as WRAR’s last president too, as members have voted in favour of yet another exciting amalgamation that will see WRAR become the Cornerstone Association of REALTORS® next year.”

Today, at a Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Kitchener, members of WRAR passed a special resolution authorizing WRAR to amalgamate with the REALTORS® Association of Hamilton-Burlington (RAHB), Simcoe and District Real Estate Board (SDREB) and the Mississauga Real Estate Board (MREB) under the name of Cornerstone Association of Realtors (Cornerstone).

Likewise, members of RAHB and SDREB also voted to approve the amalgamation at their respective SGMs, which were also held today. (Members of MREB will vote on the amalgamation at their meeting on January 31st.).

This amalgamation will combine approximately 3,800 RAHB Members, 2,600 WRAR Members, 160 SDREB Members, and 2,500 MREB Members into an organization that will become the second-largest real estate association in Ontario, comprised of nearly 9,000 REALTORS®.

“This morning’s momentous vote brings our members one step closer to belonging to Cornerstone Association of REALTORS®, a new association poised to provide the tools Realtors want and need,” said Moura. “By harnessing the power of collaboration, the new organization will empower REALTORS® with a stronger position with technology providers, consumers, government, and other stakeholders.”

Bill Duce, CEO of WRAR, says, “This is a dynamic time in our industry with many associations working to leverage the dynamics of scale to reinforce the value proposition between local REALTORS and their clients.  The coming together of these organizations will create new synergies not only for our members but consumers as well.”

Joining Moura as officers of the Association are Megan Bell of Royal LePage Wolle Realty as Immediate Past President, Jason Van Amelsvoort of Trillium West Real Estate Brokerage as President-Elect, and Bill Duce as Chief Executive Officer.

The other elected Directors of WRAR are Tracey Appleton of Royal LePage Wolle Realty, Val Brooks of Royal LePage Crown Realty Services, Andrea Fedy of Royal LePage Wolle Realty, Heidi Horwat of Re/Max Twin City Realty, Tammy Nolan of Re/Max Twin City Realty, Erin Parsons of Re/Max Solid Gold Realty, Nathan Steffler of Coldwell Banker Peter Benninger Realty.
